Mountain climate, climatology and observed data.
My main interest is the climate of mountains, in tropical settings and in others. I studied high-altitude mountains in Hawaii, where height, ocean and trade winds together shape rainfall and temperature.
I study how weather has changed over time using long records of daily observations: temperature, rainfall, frost, heat, dry spells and heavy rain. I measure each trend with a standard method and test whether it is statistically significant, so a real change can be told apart from natural variation.
Time series analysis and linear methods, mainly in MATLAB. Trend detection with the Sen's slope method and the Mann-Kendall test, with significance judged at a probability value below 0.05. Observed data only.
